Petaluma City Budget & Dutra Asphalt Plant

Controversy in Petaluma

"Signs" of our "Times"

Tomorrow, June 08, 2009 at 6:00 P.M., The Petaluma City Council will be discussing the dismal state of the budget--determining which services will be reduced or eliminated...discussing who will be laid off next. It is officially called: "Discussion of Draft Fiscal Year 2009-10 City of Petaluma Budget."

As perhaps a sign of the future, a limp and bedraggled banner in front of the Community Center reminds people that rooms are available for rent...

On Tuesday, June 9.2009 at 2 P.M., The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will take its final vote on whether to change the zoning of the property at Haystack Landing from commercial to industrial and change the general plan to allow the asphalt plan.

Their decision may or may not reflect the sentiment expressed in this sign...

If you are planning to attend, it is suggested that you arrive at least by 1 P.M. Based on experience at past meetings, there could be a large turn out.

Comment: They're trying to rent the community center and Shollenberger. What's the next sign? Maybe the next time we go for a hike at Helen Putnam Regional Park we'll see a neon sign for Mount Rushmore West with the faces of Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and Dick Cheney -- oops, I mean George W. Bush -- carved in the hills. It won't be as pretty as Helen Putnam but concession sales will at least earn enough money to fix the potholes.

Response: RE: "...concession sales will at least earn enough money to fix the potholes." You know it is a different world today when what you said in "jest" may become reality.

Comment: Those who care about the park and cannot attend the meeting may I suggest that on June 9 at 2pm and extending that to whatever time they can, they try to maintain silence. They can send thoughts/ prayers to strengthen the voices of those who represent their cause, in the hall. Collective inaudible messages have a greater strength than audible ones.
